HFV Camp recap: struggle shared, strength multiplied

What a fantastic time we had at this year’s highly anticipated HFV Camp! Families gathered from across Victoria, coming together for a weekend full of connection, adventure, and empowerment at Mill Valley Ranch.

Throughout the weekend, there was no shortage of fun activities to enjoy. Some families got their creative juices flowing with a hands-on film-making session led by Purple Soup, while others spent the evening in a more relaxed setting, enjoying tea, coffee, arts and crafts, board games, and jigsaws. It was wonderful to see everyone enjoying each other’s company and taking time to unwind.

The camp offered plenty of opportunities for outdoor excitement as well. Families took part in horse grooming, lassoing, and pony rides, while the youth engaged in insightful conversations with Jane, the wonderful social worker – gaining a deeper understanding of various topics. There were also outdoor team challenges, trail rides, archery, and water sports, including canoeing, all of which kept spirits high and energy levels up.

A real highlight was the team-building spirit that emerged. Campers were divided into four colourful teams, each bringing their own enthusiasm and competitive edge to the mix. Whether is was through indoor challenges, line dancing, or working together to solve puzzles, the sense of camaraderie and teamwork was palpable.

A heartfelt moment during the camp came when Andrea was presented with flowers on behalf of the HFV committee and campers, in recognition of her tireless efforts behind the scenes to ensure the success of every camp. As this marked her final camp, the gesture was met with warm applause and deep appreciation.

Of course, no camp would be complete without a touch of friendly competition. Throughout the weekend, teams took part in a range of spirited activities, all competing for the coveted Camp Spirit Award. The atmosphere was electric as campers threw themselves into each challenge with enthusiasm and camaraderie. This year, the Camp Spirit Award was proudly presented to Bernard and Julian, whose energy and dedication truly captured the heart and soul of camp. Congratulations to them both!

The weekend also featured dedicated Men’s and Ladies’ sessions, providing safe and supportive spaces where attendees could speak openly, share their journeys, and offer encouragement without judgement. These session proved especially valuable for new families, helping them build meaningful peer support networks within the community.

“Prior to HFV camp, I felt isolated and alone in my journey of motherhood and haemophilia – now I feel like I have a whole new family,” said a new HFV member.

In quieter moments, families had the chance to reflect on the weekend’s experiences. The Warm & Fuzzy Books captured heartfelt memories and personal reflections, and the HFV 2025 Moviemakers premiere screening showcased the creative films that campers had worked on. These moments brought the group together, celebrating he connections made over the weekend.

As always, it was a weekend full of laughter, achievements, and memories that will last long after the camp has ended!

Huge thanks go to the Blueshirts (Youth Leaders), Jane and Penny from The Alfred HTC, and Suzanne from HFA – for their time, dedication, and support. You all made the weekend truly special. We’re already looking forward to next year – we can’t wait to see you all again!
